It is positive that increasing attention is being paid to fraudulent parties
“Dropshippers are making a mess of it.” That is the harsh conclusion drawn by the Dutch Consumers’ Association (Consumentenbond) after investigating one hundred online stores. “It is positive that there is increasing attention on fraudulent parties, especially those involved in dropshipping from regions such as Asia,” says Marco Mulder, CEO and founder of Droppery.
Many of the shops investigated failed to comply with legal online sales regulations. Consumers expressed dissatisfaction with long delivery times, poor product quality, high return costs, and limited accessibility. “The problems with dropshipping are numerous and persistent. Most dropshippers fail to follow the rules and seem unaware that doing business also entails obligations. That is why we have shared our findings with the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets,” said Sandra Molenaar, director of Consumentenbond.
Lack of real action
“Unfortunately, real action is still lacking, and politicians should be more involved in addressing this issue,” Marco adds. “This is particularly important because suppliers, wholesalers, and brands invest significantly in logistics, design, and production when sourcing from other continents.”
As a potential solution, he suggests increasing import duties on small direct-to-consumer parcels or restricting certain online platforms from operating in the Dutch and Belgian markets.
Automation solution
With this vision in mind, Droppery was founded in 2021. The central question: how can suppliers and brands benefit from automated dropshipping solutions? “Our goal was to enable suppliers and brands to profit from automated B2B solutions with direct-to-consumer deliveries,” Marco explains. “We focused on key priorities such as maintaining customer ownership, providing reliable product data, ensuring good service, fast delivery, working with trusted partners, and guaranteeing fair margins.”
Trusted retailers and suppliers
Marco emphasizes that Droppery works exclusively with reliable retailers and suppliers. “This means they typically hold stock, operate from a physical location, and have been active in retail or e-commerce for at least two years. This allows us to facilitate sustainable, direct deliveries from suppliers to consumers. For many brands, this is an additional service they can offer their retail partners.”
Renowned brands such as J-Line, De Eekhoorn, Rivièra Maison, and Zuiver already provide this service to their customers through Droppery.
